Botanical Bath Bombs

There is something so relaxing about being out in the garden during spring; beautiful flowers and delightful fragrances are everywhere, so it is a great idea to take these natural essences and incorporate them somewhere else relaxing: the bath. Whether you like the classic soothing lavender, sweet rose, or you prefer more zingy citrus, there are many botanical scents, essential oils and even petals you can incorporate into your bath bombs to make your bath extra luxurious.

Base recipe for bath-bombs:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup citric acid
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salts or Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 2 Tbsp corn starch
  • 12-15 drops fragrance or essential oil
  • 1½ tsp olive, almond or other oil
  • Dried flowers (optional)
  • Food colouring (1-2 drops, optional)

Botanical extras:

  • Crushed lavender heads or oil
  • Rose petals or oil
  • Peony petals or oil
  • Mint leaves or oil
  • Jasmine oil
  • Chamomile
  • Calendula
  • Lemon, orange, grapefruit oil

Method:

  • Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl, and add any dried flowers and petals.
  • Combine the liquid ingredients into the dry mix with a whisk, just a small amount at a time. You will know you have reached the right consistency when the mixture just holds together (too much oil and the mix will not hold).
  • Press the mixture into a silicone mould; it should be tightly packed.
  • Set aside to dry out for at least 2 hours. For best results leave overnight. The bath bombs are ready to remove when they will pop out with no resistance.
  • You can now enjoy your fizzy botanical bath-bombs yourself, or share them with your friends.
