Hybridberry Berry Delight™ produces large, mouth-watering dark red fruits with a delectable boysenberry/loganberry flavor. These moderately vigorous plants have thornless canes, are self-fertile, and rely on insect and bee pollination. This Boysenberry-Loganberry hybrid thrives throughout New Zealand.
Ready for harvest in December and January, Hybridberry Berry Delight™ yields a bountiful early-season crop. The best way to enjoy these berries is fresh from the plant or chilled for later use in desserts, salads, or with ice cream. The berries are ripe when they can be easily picked. Rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and fiber, Hybridberries are a nutritious treat.
For optimal growth, plant in full sun and protect from wind, including salty sea winds. Choose a well-drained location with good moisture and rich in organic matter, and mulch annually in spring. Like other deciduous fruiting plants, they benefit from copper and oil sprays during winter to maintain health and prevent disease.
Pruning involves tying up strong canes produced in spring and summer while removing thin, weak, and wandering canes. In late summer to early autumn, trim 10cm from the tips of the canes to encourage fruiting spurs. After fruiting, remove the spent canes at the soil base in autumn, or in winter in cooler, drier areas.
