Commonly known as the flowering quince. Red Rambler is a deciduous shrub with clusters of dark red flowers as they emerge in winter into spring. Easily grown in either full sun or partial shade with average type soils that are suitably moist and free-draining. Tolerates short periods of drought once established. Ideal as a feature shrub or for planting out and trimming to create hedging.
The flowers are followed in autumn by aromatic fruit. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see note their seeds contain toxins so these should be removed if you are considering eating the fruit. Usually this shrub is grown as an ornamental shrub.
May grow to between 1.2m and 1.5m both in height and width.
Deciduous
CAUTION: The seeds on the fruit are toxic.
