Lawn Care must-haves

Lawn Care must-haves
The right tools and products are essential for a lush, vibrant lawn. These must-haves make lawn care simpler and more effective, from fertilisers and spreaders to scarifiers and weed sprays. Whether you're feeding your lawn, controlling weeds, or maintaining tidy edges, having the right equipment ensures success with minimal effort. Keep these lawn care essentials on hand to save time, improve your lawn’s health, and enjoy a beautiful, thriving outdoor space. Read on to learn more about these must-have tools and how they can keep your lawn looking its best year-round.

Fertiliser

A high-quality fertiliser is crucial for healthy lawn growth. Apply it three times a year—in spring, early summer, and autumn. The better the fertiliser, the more evenly you can apply it, ensuring your lawn gets the nutrients it needs.

Lawn Spreader

A lawn spreader makes applying fertiliser or grass seed quick and easy. It can save you time, as spreading by hand can take 30-40 minutes, while a spreader reduces this to 5-10 minutes per application. You can adjust the spreader to suit different types of fertilisers or for grass seed application.

Thatch Busta

This product helps break down thatch in lawns. While a scarifier is traditionally used, Thatch Busta simplifies the process. Just mix it with water and spray it onto the lawn. Afterwards, rake up the loosened thatch.

Scarifier

A scarifier aerates the soil and removes compacted grass or moss. It helps loosen clumpy soil and ensures that your lawn receives adequate airflow. Thatch Busta can be used before scarifying to make the task easier. Alternatively, renting a heavy-duty scarifier annually can be a good option.

Weed Spray

Weed control is an essential part of lawn care. A good weed spray, such as Kiwicare Turfclean or Yates Turfix, effectively controls broadleaf weeds without damaging your grass. Look for more targeted weed sprays for harder-to-kill weeds.

Sprayers

Having multiple sprayers for different purposes is a good practice. Label each one (e.g., ‘can use on grass’ for selective weed killers and ‘spot spray only’ for non-selective weed killers) to avoid mix-ups.

Edge Trimmer

An edge trimmer helps create tidy, clean borders for your lawn, making your yard look well-maintained and finished.

Sprinkler/Irrigation

A good sprinkler system is essential for lawn maintenance, especially during dry spells. The Gardena Oscillating Polo Sprinkler is a reliable option. Water timers can also help automate watering when you’re away.

Grass Seed

Always keep some grass seed on hand to patch up bare spots or thinning areas. Grass seed needs to be kept moist and frost-free for proper germination.

Sulphate of Iron

Ideal for controlling moss in lawns, especially during cooler months. Sulphate of iron also encourages healthy green growth. Be careful when using it near paths or other surfaces, as it can stain.

Rake

A rake is essential for removing fallen leaves from the lawn. Too many leaves can smother the grass, impede growth, and promote fungus. Rake up leaves as needed, especially in autumn.

Weed Wand

A weed wand is useful for spot spraying, especially if you have a bad back. Products like Zero Weed Wands let you paint weed killer directly onto weeds, making it easier to apply without bending down.

By keeping these tools and products handy, you can maintain a beautiful, healthy lawn with minimal effort.
